ADOPTED - Zara - 3 year old Collie/Corgi Cross - Wonderful sweet dog in desperate need of a forever home - Fostered in Staffordshire

Zara is the most sweetest dog you could ever wish to meet. She adores human company and gets along very well with other dogs.

She was rescued originally from a killing station in Croatia, a place no dog would ever want to end up! Dogs actually stand more chance of survival on the street facing abuse and cruelty every day than they do in these shelters because in such places dogs are forced into kennels with 20 or more others regardless of gender, age, health or temperament. Food if they are fed anything at all is thrown on the floor as the shelter workers delight in seeing the stronger more aggressive dogs fight for the few grains of biscuit on a filth ridden floor.

The weaker or less aggressive dogs cower in the corners of the kennel as sometime when starvation takes over they will be become the more aggressive, desperate dogs dinner. Zara was in such a killing station, she suffered so badly there at the hands of the shelter workers and what she witnessed. It is a testament to her character that she is willing to trust people still.

She is now safe, healthy and cared for at a private kennels we use in the UK.

Zara gets along fine with other dogs and also people. We do not know how she gets along with cats or small children so a cat free and small kiddy free home is advised.

ADOPTED -ETHEL - 3 Year Old Female

Ethel is a pretty girl around 3 years old who spent her whole life on the streets until now. She was abandoned since she was a puppy or born on the streets but in any case she spent her entire life in one field near Borovo,Croatia. Good people fed her almost every day, her and the rest of the strays in that area, including her son for who we are looking for accommodation too.

Now with the help of the AAFA we managed to find this lovely petite girl a foster home and get her fully vaccinated and spayed. She is now in foster home where there are lots of cats which she ignores(probably cause they are bigger than her as she is only 4 kilos), several doggies are there to, she is a bit scared of the males but that is reasonable since being such a small female on the streets

It Isn't easy but she is getting more confident about them as they are neutered and will not bother her, so we can say that she works great with all dogs, and also kids as you can see on the photos and that is just her second day in the foster home. She enjoys cuddles and sitting in the lap, this is not something that she ever had in her life but she sure does like that, and a warm comfy bed. She needs a loving, warm family where she can forget all the bad things in her life and being a homeless doggie.

ADOPTED - BELLA - 2 years old retriever type cross female. Currently near Port Talbot, South Wales

ADOPTED - BELLA - 2 years old retriever type cross female. Currently near Port Talbot, South Wales.

This beautiful girl survived the horror of the streets of Croatia, starvation, beatings, torture and constantly fighting to survive.

Her luck changed when she was adopted and brought to the UK in June. Sadly she is now back up for re-homing through no fault of her own as her current owner has health problems and can not give Bella what she needs for much longer.

Bella goes to puppy classes, is taken for walks regularly by a professional dog walker and is well behaved on the lead. Bella needs to be somewhere where she can be allowed to run free because of where she is she cannot be let off the lead very often as she does have the chase instinct although this is improving as she is gradually starting to settle down.

Bella is great with other dogs, adores human company and her cuddles. She is a very loving girl. She has shown no aggression towards cats, more of curious interest in them.

We have a month to get this lovely girl into a new home or foster as her owner may have to go into sheltered housing. Her owner is distraught at the fact she has to give up Bella as she has been a wonderful companion and friend.

Please offer this girl a new home, she is very good in the home, has not destroyed anything at all, and is clean in the house. She would make a lovely family pet or be ideal for an active person who loves to go on long walks.

Her foster carer says -

Bella is a golden retriever x (crossed with a sheep I think, she has a curly coat and lovely crinkly ears/tail), very affectionate and quick to learn, very good with children. Fully house trained, non-destructive, spayed. Can be dominant of other dogs in the home, although fine with other dogs when out walking, and likes to chase cats (for fun rather than anything sinister!). I can't stress enough what a lovely affectionate dog she is, she loves her cuddles and everyone always comments on how pretty she is.

ADOPTED -LIZZY - UK foster - 2 year old small cross breed female - currently in Walsall, Midlands.

Lizzy is a little girl with a sad story. She had a home but was left in a private shelter by her owners when they went on holiday and they never came back for her.

In the shelter she was surrounded by by ten dogs and puppies and got on really well with all of them. Lizzy is a lovely girl of small to medium size. She is fine with all animals generally. She has a gentle personality and is very calm.

Lizzy is now in the UK in a foster home. At present she is living with a very timid Pekingese. She needs to move to her forever home or another foster home as her current foster place is only short term as due to the foster carer's commitments. Please get in touch if you can offer Lizzy a foster home, or even better, a permanent home. She is a wonderful girl and deserves to be settled.

ADOPTED - BIENA - UK foster - approx 2 and half years old, female Shepherd mix, needing a forever home.

Most of the dogs in Croatia and surrounding areas are either dumped on the streets, dumped in public shelters which are horrendous places, born on the streets having to fend for themselves and face all kinds of dangers.

Starvation being the biggest threat, plus beatings, torture, being hit by cars or even killed for money. The streets are a cruel cruel place especially in winter time. Some also suffer horrendous cruelty from so called owners and the lucky ones are taken to private shelters where they are looked after until homes can be found for them, there is also racism amongst dogs over there, yes you read right, racism, the colour of the dog or cat can determine whether it lives or dies, black ones especially as they are deemed unlucky !!!

Biena was with a carer since she was about 3 months old. She was taken there with her mother and brother, sadly she witnessed her other siblings being killed by humans or other animals before she was taken into safety.

She was traumatized by what she saw. She will get defensive or wary near other dogs until she knows they are not a threat and she is the same with people. She was fine with her carers because she knew and trusted them and also the other animals that lived in the same house. She lived in the country with cats, dogs, rabbits and goats, so she will get along with most domestic animals once she gets to know them, new dogs it takes a little longer, but she gets there in the end.

Because her carer looks after so many other animals her training time was limited, Biena loves to go for walks but can not yet be let off the leash, but with time and patience that will fall into place.

Once she trusts someone she will happily be fussed and cuddled. An experienced dog owner or someone with experience of traumatized dogs would be more suited for Biena.
As can be seen from the picture she is fine with children and will happily let them fuss her. She is just a shy timid girl with unhappy memories that deserves the chance of a loving home.

ADOPTED - LAURA(Lara) :IB LAURA 4 year old female possible shepherd mix needing a forever home

Laura has been in the Radauti shelter for over a year now, brought in by the dogcatchers. On the streets fending for herself, facing starvation, beatings, killed for money or being injured in traffic. Laura would have had to fight on a daily basis for food and find somewhere to hide in the harsh winters to stay warm.

Laura is a friendly girl and a leader of the pack, but she does mix well with the other dogs in the shelter with her and there will be at least 50 of them all in one area.

They live out side in the shelter with out side kennels to sleep in

Lara is now in foster in Romania but still needs that forever home. she gets on well with every one, loves fusses and cuddles and gets on with children of all ages. She is also cat friendly. She loves to go for walks and is well behaved on a leash.

Laura is fully vaccinated, chipped, spayed,dewormed and deflead and will have an EU passport.
