On the streets there is very little shelter and even less food. Daniel's mother will have scavenged for as much to eat as possible but if she couldn't get enough, her milk would not have been nourishing enough .. and at these times Daniel would have gone very hungry himself. It is also a very frightening place to grow up. As there is so little food the bigger dogs will attack the more submissive smaller dogs and even the pups so Daniel and his sister would have seen, and heard a lot of fighting and a lot of the sounds of dogs in pain, and even dying. They would have also known the pain and fear of being attacked themselves. What made it even worse was that the area they were in was known as the 'dead zone' in Cyprus where local people attack stray dogs in the most violent of ways, so the two siblings and their mother were in constant danger.
The family of three had a very lucky break when they were rescued and placed in a shelter run by a local NGO ( a group similar to a UK charity). Of course, although safer in many ways, and despite the incredible hard work of the volunteers, life still wasn't a 'walk in the park'. Food is still scarce in the shelters as they have no government help with funding and rely on donations, and fights still break out. However, while at the shelter these three brave and loving souls had treatments for ticks, fleas and worms and had any wounds cleaned up and dressed. Being so young, weak and small Daniel and Hermione were fed the best available and with this care and attention soon the family became stronger in body and spirit.
Their mother was adopted a few weeks ago and Daniel and Hermione were brought together to the UK where they are now in a fantastic kennel in Staffordshire. Daniel is coming on in leaps and bounds (literally as he loves playing). He and his sister have a very strong bond and are enjoying life at the kennels but they both now desperately need forever homes, a place where they can be loved as they deserve for the rest of their days.
Daniel is happy, playful and full of life but he also has another side .. he loves his cuddles and the human touch. He still loves to be a baby and have all the fusses especially when he has had a 'busy' day. He is very submissive with no signs of any aggression and is fine with other dogs. Due to his age and breed (he will be a medium/large dog) he will need an active family who can give him all the exercise and play he needs. A household with small children (under 7) is not advised because he is a very boisterous boy when he is in full play mode.
